About Dr. Christine Hernandez

Licensed Clinical Psychologist | Specializing in OCD & Anxiety Disorders

I’m Dr. Christine Hernandez, a licensed clinical psychologist passionate about helping individuals find relief from the grip of OCD and anxiety. I offer in-person and telehealth psychotherapy for keiki, teens, and adults living throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Originally from California, I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in Southern California and completed advanced clinical training at renowned institutions including Loma Linda University Medical Center and The Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. These experiences shaped my commitment to evidence-based care that is both deeply respectful and highly effective.

My clinical approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a particular emphasis on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD. I also have specialized training in the treatment of Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs)—such as hair-pulling and skin-picking—as well as Hoarding Disorder, providing structured, compassionate care for these often-misunderstood conditions.

I have a special passion for working with adults as well as youth and their family members navigating OCD and anxiety.

I consider it a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they gain freedom from fear, reclaim their lives, and move toward what matters most.

As someone who calls Hawaiʻi home, I approach this work with deep cultural sensitivity and humility. I recognize the unique historical and cultural context of these islands, and I am committed to providing care that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive to the lived experiences of the communities I serve. It is truly an honor to support the healing journeys of individuals and families across Hawaiʻi.

Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on meaningful progress. Whether you’re seeking care for yourself or someone you love, I’m here to offer a safe space, practical tools, and a path forward—with warmth, skill, and respect for your journey.

How I Work

A structured, supportive path to change—tailored to your needs.

Seeking therapy—especially for OCD or anxiety—can feel overwhelming. You might be wondering, Where do I start? or Will this actually help me? My goal is to create a space that feels both safe and structured, so you can focus on healing with confidence and clarity.

Here’s what working together typically looks like:

  • In the beginning, we’ll take time to really get to know each other. These early sessions are focused on building trust, understanding your current struggles, and exploring your history in depth. This includes:

    • Identifying your primary concerns and symptoms

    • Exploring how these issues impact your daily life

    • Reviewing relevant background, such as past treatment, family dynamics, and medical history

    • Clarifying your goals and what you'd like to be different in your life

This is also a chance for you to see if my style feels like a good fit for your needs. At the end of the assessment phase, I’ll offer a tailored treatment plan based on best practices and your unique values.

  • Once we have a clear direction, we’ll begin focused work using evidence-based treatments such as:

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

    • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD

    • CBT-Hoarding protocols or Comprehensive Behavioral treatment (ComB) for BFRBs

    • Skills-based strategies for anxiety management, self-compassion, and resilience

Each session has a clear focus, and we’ll work toward specific goals together. While therapy can sometimes feel challenging—especially when facing fears—we’ll move at a pace that feels manageable, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Many clients begin noticing change within a few months, and most treatment courses last 12 to 24 sessions, depending on your needs and goals.

  • As symptoms improve and confidence grows, we’ll begin planning for life after therapy. This may include:

    • Reviewing progress and celebrating wins

    • Strengthening new habits and coping skills

    • Creating a relapse prevention plan

    • Setting up occasional booster or check-in sessions, if needed

You don’t have to stay in therapy forever—but you also don’t have to leave until you’re ready. The goal is to help you feel equipped to move forward with greater ease, self-understanding, and freedom.

  • Throughout the process, I see therapy as a team effort. You bring your courage, insight, and lived experience—and I bring structure, expertise, and a deep respect for your journey. Together, we create a treatment space where real change can happen.

Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or your child, you’re in the right place.
